Rimmel London Red Nail Polish Review

Rimmel London Red Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
Who wouldn't have bright red nail polish on their collection? I think every girl should have bright true red nail polish and lipstick! One of my favourite red nail polish colours is Rimmel's Double Decker Red shade. It's a perfect true red and goes so nicely with lipstick!

Rimmel London Red Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
Rimmel London nail polishes stays on pretty well and they do not chip any more than any other nail polish. I like Rimmel as it has true British brand image and they show it in the products by using British icons such as red double decker in their nail polish names.

Interesting make up brands you have never heard of & Products what I want to try!

ELLIS FAAS

I discovered Ellis Faas brand couple of days ago from Killer Colours - beauty blog, where the blog introduced this amazing lip colour called Milky Lips L203. The colour looked so nice and figuring out the brand I have fell in love with their brand image, artistic pictures and with attitude!

Charlotte Tilbury

This brand is one of my new findings. I would love to get those brushes as you can see the handle is carved more suitable for the hand and it doesn't roll off from your desk because the edges. Of course the colour and style of the brush is to die for too!

PIXI

When I first read that there is primer which reduces redness I knew I need to try this product. I have very thin skin and the blood veins can be seen through so if I do any kind of exercising or fast walk I'm red like a strawberry. This review (click) sold the product even more to me - I need to try it!

Even if this brand is famous in USA for its contour kit, which many beauty youtuber's are hyping about I think the brand is still pretty unknown in Europe. The contour kit has got so many great reviews that I would love to have this product, especially for its ashy brown shade for my cheekbones. Here one good review: (klick)

What do you think? Are any of these brands new to you?

Technology Tuesday - Mink 3D Make Up Printer - Print your own make up at home!

Picture from http://gracechoi.co/
Are you ready for the new era of colour cosmetics? This technology allows you to print make up at home.

So little bit about the woman behind this all. Grace Choi is a serial entrepreneur Harvard Business School MBA graduate who has invented previously medical devices, created a jewellery line and now debuting her skincare line and 3D make up printer.

The 3D make up printer called Mink would allow you to take any colour in the world for example clicking the colour you found from online and making it to a eye shadow or a lipstick. The printer would cost 300 dollars and would be aimed for girls and young women from 13 to 21.

What do you think? Would you invest money to print your own make up?

Makeup Monday Day & Night Eyeshadow palettes

Smoky eye makeup palette (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

I think nice smoky eye can be worn during the day and night. I got these two eyeshadow palettes couple weeks ago and had a lot of fun playing around with these colours.

First I will go thought the daytime eyeshadow palette. I fell in love with this palette's greyish blue shades and imagined how nicely I can make a day time smokey eye with this one. I have used the palette now for couple of occasions and I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed. The eye shadows have quite good pigmentation, but overall I would have needed one properly matte light shade to the palette in order to finish my look.

My favourite eye shadow shades are Midnight blue (5) and Shimmer Purple (8) as they were well pigmented and have this nice metallic shimmer in them. The most disappointed I was about the light blue colours which didn't have too much pigment and I hoped them to be more ashy greyish shades. Also I felt that I needed more matte colours as all of the eye shadows had some amount of shimmer or even a metallic finish on them.

Smoky eye makeup palette (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

I was more pleased with the night time eyeshadow palette as the overall palette had better combination of shades and the colours were very pigmented! The palette consisted of two greyish matte shades (1 & 7) and one black matte shade (5). Also it had great variety of shimmer and metallic shades! I loved that the palette had matte black and shimmer black as they are so versatile. I totally fell in love with dark metallic brown (8) and metallic cream (3) shades.

Overall I was pretty pleased with the palettes, they were pretty pigmented, the colours were nice and it was okay to apply. The texture wasn't the best as the colour was very powdery like.

Do you love smoky eyes or are you more of a 'clean' look girl?

Wellness Wednesday - Natural Mineral Makeup good or bad?

Mineral Makeup facts & myths (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
Last couple of years there has been a trend; avoiding chemicals and changing to safer and more natural makeup. I think it is great that people start to think about what are they putting to their skin, but many don't do the needed research and believe everything what advertising says. When mineral makeup started to become popular I started to get interested about it as it was 'natural and better for the skin', but there was many facts what the companies did not tell to their customers and 'natural' - word means a lot different to the consumer than what it means for the people making the cosmetics. Here are the common myths and facts:

MYTHS
Mineral make up is 'pure', more safe and better than normal makeup -not true
Mineral make up is more ethical -not true

FACTS
Inhaled mineral makeup can be dangerous - right
Mineral makeup can be better for irritated skin - right
Mineral makeup has natural SPF - right

What is mineral makeup?

Mineral makeup is form of makeup that is composed of compressed minerals usually mica and titanium dioxide. These minerals are a naturally occurring substance in nature. Using minerals as a makeup is not new as in ancient Egypt the earliest eye paint was a thick, bright green paste made from the mineral malachite.

What NATURAL makeup actually means?

A product is considered "natural" when it contains ingredients that are sourced from nature rather than created synthetically. Synthetic chemicals are produced through laboratory manipulation and are not found in nature, though it is possible to create synthetic versions of natural ingredients (such as Vitamin E.) Natural products generally don't include ingredients like petrochemicals, parabens, sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes and synthetic colors. It's good to remember that 'natural' doesn't always mean better, even if all minerals are natural they can be poisonous to the skin for example Elizabeth the First of England used Cerussite or white lead as a powder, which is poisonous and disfigures the skin. Nowadays mineral cosmetics are made from mica and titanium dioxide, they are generally thought to be safe, but there is ongoing debate about it.

What is mica?
Mica is a colourant commonly used in cosmetic industry.

Mica is a silicate mineral which occurs in nature and goes through cutting, sorting and processing before being used in cosmetics. Mica mineral is used in many industries such as electrical industry, automobile industry and cosmetics. Mica can be natural and synthetic and it can be found almost all colour cosmetics. Lately there has been discussion about if natural mica is ethical as many countries where mica is mined use child labour example Lush changed to use synthetic mica as they couldn't guarantee that they don't use child labour. (click)

What is Titanium Dioxide?
Titanium Dioxide is white pigment commonly used in cosmetic industry.

Titanium Dioxide is silicate minerals and when used as a pigment, it is called titanium white, Pigment White 6 (PW6), or CI 77891. It is widely used to provide whiteness and opacity to products such as paints, plastics, papers, inks, foods, and cosmetics.

Mineral Makeup facts & myths (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Is Titanium Dioxide & mica safe?

Titanium dioxide and mica are generally thought to be safe, but some health concerns such as heavy metals, nanotechnology and overall safety has been questioned. Mica and Titanium Dioxide comes from the earth and it may contain trace amounts of heavy metals (click) but the levels are regulated by the FDA, and the small amounts that may eventually be in cosmetic or personal care products do not pose a risk to human health.

European union states that nanomaterial that gives a cosmetic product useful properties, can also pose a risk to the consumer (click). This is why from 2013 in European union companies need to specify if they use nanotehcnology by adding (nano) on the ingredients list. It's good to remember that the field of nanomaterial risk assessment is still evolving.

Titanium dioxide dust, when inhaled, has been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen, meaning it is possibly carcinogenic to humans. (click) But used on the skin Titanium Dioxide should be safe as it has been extensively evaluated and the scientific data shows that they do not penetrate the skin. (click)

The positive stuff?

For some people mineral makeup is great as it usually doesn't have classic irritants like fragrances, binders, synthetic dyes, and preservatives. Some people who suffer from eczema or skin irritation says that mineral makeups are so much better for their skin. It should always be remembered that not all products suit everybody and only trying different product you can find what actually suits your skin.

Should we buy them?

So should you buy mineral cosmetics? In my opinion I would buy mineral makeup as I would buy drugstore makeup - I don't see too much difference. I think that the risk around using mineral makeup are not so much different from using drugstore makeup as most of the mineral makeup brands do not use nanoparticles and if you don't generally inhale the powder in my opinion everything should be fine. Only thing what I don't like is how mineral makeup brands advertise their products safer and better than normal makeup.

What is your opinion? Have you used mineral makeup?

Disclaimer - I'm not scientist or expert in this area, this post is my own opinion and information I found from many online resources and put together. Also cosmetic industry is evolving all the time the facts stated today might be proven wrong in the future. If you know more about the subject or if some of my facts are wrong please email me or  leave a comment below.

Technology Tuesday - Ioma Youth Booster - Nasa meets Cosmetics

Screenshot from http://www.ioma-paris.com/en/ website
I decided to start new column for the blog called Technology Tuesday where I will be talking about new break throughs in cosmetic industry and how technology has come into the cosmetic markets for sure.

Today I will be introducing IOMA Youth Booster, which uses the same technology as NASA used when it explored Mars; MEMS micro-sensors. In the Ioma Youth Booster the micro-sensors evaluates the hydration levels in your skin while NASA used it as measuring the gases in the atmosphere in Mars.

So what the product actually does? It tells you how dehydrated your skin is and how often you should use the skin hydrating miracle. Even if the technology is pretty high-tech I'm not too excited about the product - it just seem to be expensive face cream with technology.

What do you think about the product? Cosmetic industry break through or a flop?

Make Up Monday - Eylure Shape & Shade Brow Pencil and Tamer Review

Eyebrow Pencil (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
Today I picked up one eyebrow pencil to try on. After I changed my hair colour from dark red to light blond I have had trouble finding a proper ashy shade eyebrow pencil. So I bought Eylure's Shape & Shade (Colour 3) and I was super excited to try it on as the colour in the packet looked very ashy and grey toned. First of all I have to say that the brow tamer or brow brush is amazing, its full round brush, pretty soft, but easily brushes through the eyebrow making it to the right shape.

Eyebrow Pencil (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Then the colour - the colour is ashy as the packaging says. The colour suits with medium to light blonde hair, but I have to add its not the best for white or extremely blond hair. I have very ashy hair and would love to find proper ashy eyebrow pencil colour, but I find it very difficult. This colour is okay, but not the perfect match. While waiting for that perfect colour to appear this pencil will be on my make up bag.

Eyebrow Pencil (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

+The Good
-Great brow brush
-Easy to apply & hold

-The Bad
-Colour more suitable for warm toned hair

Have you found a perfect eyebrow colour?

Neal's Yard Remedies Convent Garden - Pure essential oils to roll

Neal's Yard Remedies (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
I got these two oils as a gift couple of years ago. I haven't used them too much, but I thought it would be nice to introduce the brand and organic 'remedies' to you. So first of all Neal's Yard Remedies is a leading independent British retailer of organic natural health and beauty products. It was founded in 1981 in Covent Garden, London, they have many stores across the UK as well as in Canada, Japan and the USA. http://www.nealsyardremedies.com/

These two oils with strong herb scent are meant to relax and help you to study. The bottle explains that you need to roll them over your pulse points. I usually use it on my wrists as it is easy to smell the scent from there. I believe that the scent can relax or awaken you, but I haven't really seen any proper evidence that these oils help you to relax any other way.

Neal's Yard Remedies (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

I have two oils one for relaxation and one which would help you to study. The relaxation oil reminds me of massage oil as the aroma is warm and spicy. The study oil is more fresh and awakening and it has strong herb scent. I love this one so much as it reminds me of my grandma who use to collect herbs with be and dry them on the sealing after that she use to smell just like that.

My hairstyle FRENCH BRAID BUN HAIR

FRENCH BRAID BUN HAIR (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
I don't usually do much for my hair in the mornings. Just because I'm running through everything I need, eat something quickly, put my make up on and when finally I start to do my hair - I realise I have to go. Anyways today I did a messy french braid bun, because I had yesterday curled my hair and it was still pretty puffy and easy to work with so I thought to put it up for a bun.

Just to let you know I have very fine Scandinavian hair, it is very slippery after I wash it and usually if I want to do some nice hair up do I need to wait for the next day in order to get some texture to the hair. So today was perfect day for the up do! As you can see from the picture I'm not a professional in braids yet, but I think it will do for today.

Do you have any favourite hair style? Can you do a french braid?

Sinful Colors Professional Nail Polish Review - 323 Feeling Great

Sinful Colors Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

I just bought a new summer nail polish from Sinful Colors! I'm not a big fan of pink colours, but this time somehow I fell in love with this dark fuchsia pink. The colour is called 'Feeling Great', which is definitely great name for it. The colour is so bold and bright. It would make anyone feeling great.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

This affordable nail polish brand (£1.99) is from US and all of its nail polishes are made in USA. The brand has amazing colours and I definitely will be buying more. I would say that the quality of Sinful Colors nail polish is pretty average it dries pretty quickly and usually needs to coats to make the colour perfect, but compared to the price definitely a great buy! PRO:VOKE professional hair care Touch of Silver Shampoo & Conditioner review

PRO:VOKE Silver Shampoo & Conditioner (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

As I mentioned earlier I have gone through total hair make over, changing from dark red colour to platinum blond hair in couple of months. To be able to change my hair colour I have used and tested many silver shampoos and conditioners. One of them is Pro:voke.

Pro:voke was one of the first silver shampoos I bought after John Frieda Silver Shampoo. When I picked it up from Boots Pharmacy I mostly took it because of it's affordable price and didn't expect too much from it. First when I started using the shampoo I was very disappointed, until I realised that I didn't leave the shampoo long enough to my hair. So as it says in the bottle I needed to leave the shampoo for 5 minutes before I rinse it. After I started keeping the shampoo longer time on my hair I started seeing drastic change, it toned my hair better than anything else I have tried! The conditioner was as I expected - didn't really do anything than conditioned my hair.

The Pro:voke silver shampoo is very liquid with dark blue / violet pigment, you need to be careful that you wont colour everything around you. It has also pretty strong smell and you need quite a lot of the shampoo that you can massage it properly to wet hair. The Pro:voke silver conditioner is way more thicker and actually pretty hard to get from the bottle, it has a light lavender colour. Even if the product has many minuses from the bottle to the smell, it is still the best silver shampoo I have come across to.

PRO:VOKE Silver Shampoo & Conditioner (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

+The Good
The silver shampoo really works!
The colour of the shampoo is very pretty

-The Bad
Strong Smell
Hard to get conditioner out from the bottle
Shampoo very liquid!
Shampoo needs to be kept over 5 min

Bronzers for all seasons SUMMER WINTER & EVERY DAY

Bronzer (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Do you have a favourite bronzer for every season or do you go with one and only for all year around? I have couple of bronzers which I use depending on what kind of look I want to achieve. For my winter white porcelain skin I need to use very light bronzer.

At summer I use my Pink & Brown colour, which goes easily with every season, the colours have pink undertone, but aren't bright enough to be called a blush. Also you can easily try to use 'lighter' shades of the pallet for fall & winter season. You can get easy and pretty natural look with these if you have pink undertone skin.

If I want to get nice tanned look I would use warm toned bronzer, which would look nice in summer days. As I have very light Scandinavian skin I have to be careful with warm toned bronzers that I won't look totally ridiculous having dark brown on my cheeks.

Bronzer (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
The last colour is light greyish brown colour from Chanel, which I use at winter to my skin. I didn't even add it to the picture under, because you couldn't even see it, as it is so light. Basically I can just lightly contour my cheeks. It is very nice colour and gives very natural look for the cheeks.

KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish review

KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
KIKO Makeup Milano is an Italian professional cosmetics brand that features a range of cutting-edge makeup, face and body treatments. I first got introduced to KIKO when I was first time visiting Milano, at the time the brand was still pretty small, but had good potential to grow outside of Italy. Right now you can buy KIKO cosmetics at their stores in both Westfields and in Regents Street in London. Also they have an online store, which is selling limited variety of products: http://www.kikocosmetics.co.uk/

KIKO is definitely one of my favourite brands, it's luxurious, extremely good quality and affordable. The shop assistants are always helpful and they are wearing amazing makeups themselves, so they clearly know what are they talking about.

I have couple of KIKO's nail polishes and they are my all time favourites as the colours are just amazing. After shopping at KIKO you are never going back to your drugstore favourites I can promise you.

KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

This is my oldest KIKO nail polish which I bought when I was visiting Milano. I couldn't find the colour number at their website, so I guess they don't have the colour anymore or they have renamed it, which is possible as I found one exactly the same colour at their website called 'Pearly Orange'.

The colour is beautiful, it is clear orange, but with pearly shine. This nail polish is made for warm summer days and beach holidays in Spain!
KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

The next KIKO nail polish is beautiful brown colour, which is my favourite as it is neutral and can be worn easily at the office, without a shock factor.

The name is Gold Rosy Brown which is quite interesting name as on the nails the colour is not rosy, more solid shiny light brown, although you can see the 'gold shine' when the polish is in the bottle.
KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Now we are going for the shock factor colours! Even if blue is formal, this KIKO nail polish colour adds dark glamour, smoky eyes and femme fatale look to your nails. I can imagine wearing this when going out some artsy place with full dark make up and killer high heels.

The China Blue colour is dark, has light shimmer to it and looks almost black when you put more than one coat. It has electric shine, with black outline.

KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

The last KIKO nail polish colour is Violet Microglitter, which is the universe colour, it has million shades of glitter on the beautiful violet under colour. I haven't used this colour as much as others as it is quite hard to match with outfit as it is such a show stopper. I would prefer using this when going out, maybe even with more dark bohemian look with a lot of silver rings. The colour is beautiful so I hope I would be wearing the nail polish more often.

I'm actually wearing Gold Rosy Brown today! It's such a beautiful colour and goes so well with natural light brown smoky eye make up!

KIKO Cosmetics Nail Polish (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

+ The Good
Beautiful Colours
Beautiful packaging
Good Coverage & Keeps Okay
Affordable

-The Bad
Stays the same as any other nail polish
Needs to coats

The life changing hair oils for damaged & bleached hair

Hair Oils (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Recently I changed my hair colour from dark red to platinum blonde and during that process of bleaching and dying the hair I realised that I needed something stronger than traditional conditioning for my hair, so I went and bought some hair oils.

Hair oils have been on a trend for a while and big hair and cosmetic brands have started to sell their own such as L'Oreal's Garnier and Elvive hair oils. Before the trend hair oils were mostly expensive and sold in health stores and were suggested for people with hair loss. For these large multinational brands developing their own - the price cut down as well and everyone could afford them.

Hair Oils (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
This is my first time trying hair oils as my hair has been before very good condition and I didn't need any conditioning, but after bleaching my hair... you can just imagine. So I went and bought Argan Oil Hair Treatment and Macadamia Oil Hot Hair treatment.

Argan oil treatment I just used after washing my hair to towel dried hair. The oil was almost invisible, but smelled so nice, the aroma was somewhere between almond and cinnamon. After I dried my hair properly I could feel that my hair was way softer than it was before. I definitely will keep using this.

Macadamia hot oil treatment is to use before washing your hair. The bottle need to be kept under hot water or like me put to the cup with hot water in order to make it warm. I kept the bottle couple of minutes in the cup of hot water. After that I opened the bottle and applied the oil all over my hair. The oil was warm, quite dark orange - brownish colour and smelled as good as the Argan oil. It was spicy, but sweet at the same time.

Hair Oils (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved
As you can see on the picture above the hair oils were completely different. Argan oil was almost see through and very liquid and Macadamia oil warm thicker and dark coloured, it also had stronger aroma.

+The Good
Makes hair conditioned & silky
Nice smell

-The Bad
Can be messy
Needs time to keep it in the hair

Have you ever tried hair oils? Do you have any favourite?

The Torture of shopping Jeans

Jeans Denim (C) Sophie Sandstorm - All Rights Reserved

Does everyone love shopping? Going to the clothing store, picking up the elegant dress for the evening and neat trousers for office? Yap I guess most of you would love to spend day just buying new clothes and those ones who would not - I feel your pain. I myself dislike shopping clothes and I am the worst person to ask to spend a day shopping. I just don’t like it. The heat in the shop or too much air conditioners, too many people pushing around, the queues for the fitting room, wrong sizes, badly fitting clothes, see through fabrics. Gosh it gives me a headache just to think about it! Especially I dislike buying jeans as I think it is hard to find the right size.

I have needed to find a properly fitting jeans for a year now as the shop where I use to buy my jeans changed the jeans and after that it didn’t fit to my body anymore. It’s weird as I feel that all of my girl friends can buy jeans almost any shop they like, but when I’m trying the same it never works.

So the story starts couple of months ago when all of my old jeans where worn off and looked like 100 years old. I knew that I needed to go jeans shopping, but as I dislike shopping clothes it took quite many months to actually overcome myself and go and try million pairs of jeans to find the right one. Now couple of last weeks I have been going to two or three shops just to try jeans, but without any success. Who could have guessed what happened the next week? I went and found the right jeans and not only one - three different ones. I was happy to finally get new jeans and hopefully I don’t need to go shopping for a while.

I bought three different jeans; Nice high waist jeans, with cute zipper details near pockets. Grey jeans, which are so soft! At last but not the least I got a classic black skinny jeans.

Do you like shopping clothes or is it a nightmare for you? What is the hardest clothing piece to find for yourself?
